Senior AI Product Engineer / AI Workflow Architect
At AMEX Healthcare, we are scaling AI across our core operations – from document processing and knowledge systems to decision support and automation. We are looking for a senior AI engineer who combines strong Python skills, LLM system design, and a deep sense of responsibility for output quality.
We are the leading healthcare supplier to the United Nations and non-profit organizations worldwide. Honored as EY Entrepreneur of the Year, we believe business can – and should – be a force for good. Our global team spans across 40 countries, united by one mission: improving healthcare through innovation and operational excellence.
You will play a key role in shaping the future of our company - the AI systems that support life-saving projects across the globe. You will build AI systems people rely on.
Your job responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end AI workflows integrated into real business processes
- Build and maintain Python-based AI systems (LLMs, embeddings, retrieval, orchestration)
- Work with large, heterogeneous datasets (ERP data, emails, documents, files, APIs)
- Design and manage vectorization pipelines and retrieval strategies
- Trace, monitor and debug LLM calls, prompts, outputs and failures
- Define and enforce quality, reliability and evaluation standards for AI outputs
- Collaborate closely with product, business and tech stakeholders
- Decide when AI is the right tool - and when it is not
- Document architectures, trade-offs and decisions clearly and pragmatically
What we offer
- A high-impact AI role with real-world responsibility
- Direct ownership of AI systems used across the organization
- The chance to shape AMEX’s long-term AI architecture and strategy
- Purpose-driven work supporting UN and NGO healthcare supply chains
- Flat hierarchies, fast decisions and direct access to stakeholders
- A highly international, values-driven team in an English-speaking work environment in one of the best cities in the world to live in
Additional perks
- Support for moving to beautiful Vienna, Austria (incl. legal support for work visa, German courses…) and being integrated in an amazing international team
- High degree of autonomy and technical ownership, an organization driven by values
- Budget for tools, infrastructure and AI experimentation
- Time explicitly reserved for system quality, evaluation and refactoring
- Purpose-driven work with visible real-world impact
What we expect from you
- Strong hands-on experience with Python in production environments
- Experience building systems with LLMs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, open-source models, etc.)
- Solid understanding of embeddings, vector databases and retrieval patterns
- Experience with prompting, evaluation, tracing and output quality control
- Ability to design AI systems that are robust, explainable and maintainable
- Comfort working with ERP data and Microsoft systems
- Product mindset: you care about outcomes, not just models
- High sense of ownership and responsibility for system behavior
- Clear and structured communication – you can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
- Persistence, curiosity and motivation to learn
- Experience integrating AI into real business workflows is a strong plus
